Indexing questions, answered

Website indexing FAQ

Clear answers about submission status, provider limits, ownership, credentials, sitemaps, and what no indexing service can promise.

Can IndexMyWebsite guarantee that a URL will be indexed?

No. IndexMyWebsite can validate owned-site URLs, organize supported notifications, and record provider responses. Search engines independently decide whether to crawl, index, and rank a page.

What is the difference between submitted, accepted, crawled, and indexed?

Submitted means an attempt was sent. Accepted means the provider received it. Crawled means a search engine fetched the page. Indexed means the engine stored the page so it may appear in search. Each state requires separate evidence.

Why is there a 200-attempt Google project limit?

The launch configuration enforces a hard maximum of 200 provider-reaching Google notification attempts per connected Cloud project per UTC day. Service accounts in the same project share that budget, and retries that reach the provider count toward it.

Does IndexMyWebsite provide Google credentials?

No. Customers connect credentials they own and are authorized to use. Stored credential payloads are encrypted, excluded from browser responses, and removable from workspace settings.

How does IndexNow ownership verification work?

The dashboard generates a key and exact text-file URL. The customer hosts that file on the connected site. IndexNow jobs remain blocked until IndexMyWebsite fetches the same-origin file and verifies its contents.

Which URLs should I submit?

Submit canonical, public, indexable URLs that are new or materially changed. Avoid redirects, duplicates, parameter combinations, private pages, noindex pages, and URLs you do not control.

Can I import an XML sitemap?

Yes. The application supports recursive XML sitemap indexes with same-site validation, redirect limits, private-network blocking, response-size limits, URL normalization, and deduplication.

Does repeated submission fix an indexing problem?

Usually not. If a URL remains excluded, inspect crawl access, status codes, canonical signals, internal links, rendering, duplication, and content value before spending another submission attempt.

Is IndexMyWebsite a backlink indexer?

The current product is for URLs on websites the customer controls. It does not claim to force third-party backlinks into a search index or provide a backlink-indexing guarantee.
